City of Del Rio Police Department press release
On June 18th, 2024 at 7:58 a.m. the Del Rio Police Department responded to the 400 block of Memorial Drive regarding an assault in progress. Upon arrival police located a male juvenile on the ground, shaking due to the injuries sustained.
Emergency Medical Services were requested on scene. EMS arrived and transported the victim to Val Verde Regional Medical Center for treatment. The victim was later airlifted to a hospital in San Antonio, Texas due to possible brain injury.
Multiple witnesses at the scene provided police with the clothing and physical description of several suspects. One suspect was positively identified by the name of J. Gerardo Camacho Martinez; 17 years of age.
Police relayed such information via police radio and an assisting agency located Martinez who had blood on his knuckles and abrasions on both hands consistent with the blunt impact.
Martinez was arrested and transported to the police station where he was charged with Aggravated Assault Causes Serious Bodily Injury. Martinez was later released to the custody of GEO Correctional Facility
