NEWS — Man arrested after attempted coin machine theft, methamphetamine recovered

The following press release was provided by the City of Del Rio Police Department.

On April 29, 2026, at approximately 10:33 a.m., officers with the Del Rio Police Department responded to a convenience store in the 100 block of Dr. Fermin Calderon Blvd. regarding an unwanted male subject. The caller reported a male wearing a pink shirt attempting to pry open a coin-operated machine using a knife.

Upon arrival, officers located a male matching the description and made contact. During a search, officers recovered a knife and a clear container holding a crystal-like substance. Two smoking pipes commonly used to inhale narcotics were also found in the subject’s possession. The substance later tested positive for methamphetamine.

A review of the business surveillance system confirmed the male attempting to remove money from the coin-operated machine using the knife. A Criminal Trespass Warning was issued, prohibiting him from returning to the business.

The subject was identified as Victor Alonso Torres, 42 years of age. Torres was cited for Failure to Identify after initially refusing to provide his name, as well as Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Torres was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1/1-B >=1G<4G. He was transported to the police station for processing and later released to the custody of the GEO Correctional Facility pending magistration.
