A man was arrested on a felony assault charge after he allegedly choked a woman during an argument, police said.
Jose Luis Arredondo, 29, who gave police a home address in Rincon, Ga., but who also provided a home address of 309 W. Bowie St. to court officials, was arrested shortly after noon on July 11 and charged with the offense of assault impeding breathing-family violence, a third-degree felony, according to a report released recently by the Del Rio Police Department.
In an affidavit filed in the case, DRPD Officer Teresa Parrack reported she responded to a 9-1-1 call for a disturbance at 309 W. Bowie St. at 12:06 p.m. on July 11.
Parrack wrote when she arrived at the residence, she saw a small boy outside. She said she also saw a man, later identified as Arredondo, carrying a small girl and “yelling at officers to get off of his property.”
Parrack said she saw a woman who appeared to be crying inside the house. The officer reported she asked the woman to step outside and moved her and the two children to a safe location.
“Officers attempted to detain Arredondo, (who) started being confrontational and pushed an officer with his hands to get off of the property. Officer Parrack observed officers place one handcuff on Arredondo’s right hand. (When) officers attempted to handcuff his left hand, Arredondo resisted, and officers took Arredondo to the ground then handcuffed him,” Parrack reported.
Parrack wrote she spoke to the woman, who told her that she and Arredondo had gotten into an argument.
“(The woman) stated Arredondo then pushed her into a wall (inside the house), and she hit her face on the wall, causing the left side of her lip to feel pain and bleed. (The woman) stated Arredondo had her in a choke hold, which caused her not to be able to breathe,” Parrack wrote.
She said the woman told her Arredondo kicked her in the buttocks when she tried to run out of the residence, then pushed her back inside the house and threw her on the couch. The woman also said she is pregnant, Parrack reported.
Parrack wrote she asked the woman to provide police with a voluntary witness statement, but said the woman declined to do so.
Parrack then arrested Arredondo on the felony assault charge and transported him to the police station for processing.
Justice of the Peace Pct. 4 Hilda Lopez set a bond of $30,000 in the case.
