City of Del Rio Police Department press release
On March 8th, 2024 at approximately 8:41a.m., the Del Rio Police Department responded to the 200 block of Space Blvd. for a disturbance in progress. While en-route to the location, police were informed the 911 call for service was disconnected and no contact with the caller had been reestablished. Upon arrival, police met with a male identified as Joe Allan Rivera; 30 yrs. of age. Rivera said he was involved in a verbal disturbance with a known female but added no assault occurred.
Police met with the female who reported an assault occurred after Rivera refused to allow her to leave the premises. Female said she attempted to call police for assistance by dialing 911, but Rivera removed the phone from her, interfering with her call for assistance and disconnecting the call.
The female had visible injuries consistent with the story provided to police. Rivera was arrested for Assault Causes Bodily Injury Family Member and Interference with Emergency Request for Assistance. Rivera was transported to the police station for processing, he was later released to the custody of GEO Correctional Facility. An Emergency Protective Order was requested on behalf of the female
