NEWS — Man arrested for reckless driving, unlawful carrying of weapon

On July 7th, 2025, at approximately 11:08 p.m. the Del Rio Police Department responded to Val Verde Regional Medical Center for a silver in color Dodge Charger doing donuts in the parking lot with its lights off.

Upon arrival police observed the vehicle matching the description as it exited the parking lot onto Bedell Ave. The vehicle made a northbound turn at an unsafe speed causing the rear tires to lose traction. A traffic stop was conducted, contact was made with the driver who stated he was facing a family crisis at the time. The driver was cited for the offense and was urged to drive safely.

On July 8th ,2025 at approximately 2:51 a.m. an officer was traveling southbound on the 1100 block of Veterans Blvd. when he noticed a vehicle traveling at a higher speed than the posted speed limit. The vehicle was traveling at 52 mph. and continued to accelerate reaching a max speed of 73 mph.

A traffic stop was conducted; as the officer approached the driver, he recognized him as the same violator from a few hours prior.

A search of the vehicle revealed a Smith & Wesson pistol, unholstered and equipped with a loaded magazine. The weapon was cleared and secured by police.

Due to the continued reckless driving behavior, and the disregard for the safety others; the driver was taken into custody. The driver identified as Guillermo David Borjon Cabral; 21 years of age was arrested for the offense of Reckless Driving.

Additionally, due to Cabral’s act of Reckless Driving while in possession of a firearm he was also arrested for the offense of Unlawful Carrying of Weapons. Cabral was transported to the police station for booking, he was later released to the custody of GEO Correctional Facility.
