Del Rio Police Department press release
On February 4, 2026, at approximately 10:57 a.m., the Del Rio Police Department responded to a disturbance in the 100 block of Playground Walk.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim, who was observed to have visible injuries to the upper body. A male suspect was present at the scene and was detained pending further investigation.
During the investigation, officers learned the suspect had physically and sexually assaulted the victim
several hours earlier. It was also reported that the suspect threatened to cause serious bodily injury or death if law enforcement was contacted.
The suspect was identified as Edward John Mayer Jr., 24 years of age. Mayer was arrested and charged with Sexual Assault, Terroristic Threat – Cause Fear of Imminent Serious Bodily Injury, and Assault Family/Household Member – Impeding Breath or Circulation.
Mayer was transported to the Del Rio Police Department for processing and was later released to the custody of the GEO Correctional Facility pending magistration.
