A man who allegedly brandished a knife at two other men during an argument was arrested on a felony assault charge, police and court records show.

Pedro Angel Jalomos, 41, 307 Noriega St., was arrested about 8:30 p.m. on July 2 and charged with the offense of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony, according to an arrest report released recently by the Del Rio Police Department.

After he was arrested, Jalomos’ property was inventoried, and the arresting officer found a small plastic baggie containing a white powdery substance that field-tested positive for cocaine. Jalomos was then also charged with the offense of possession of a controlled substance, Penalty Group 1, less than one gram, a state jail felony, the DRPD arrest report shows.

In an affidavit filed in the case DRPD Officer Ivonne Carbajal reported she was dispatched to 1105 W. De La Rosa St. at 8:25 p.m. July 2 after police received a call about a disturbance in progress between a man and a woman. Carbajal reported while en route to the call, police dispatchers advised her the man involved in the disturbance reportedly had a knife.

“Upon arrival, a male wearing a blue shirt flagged my patrol car down. I spoke to the male, who stated the male subject and female subject involved (in the disturbance) were inside a white Dodge van with Texas license plates,” Carbajal wrote.

Carbajal said she spoke to the woman inside the van and asked her what had happened.

“(The woman) stated she and the male, who was identified as Pedro Jalomos, had been arguing. (She) stated as the argument ensued, Jalomos became upset and threw a barbecue pit,” Carbajal wrote.

She said the woman told her that as the fight continued, two men approached her and Jalomos and told Jalomos not to put his hands on her. She said Jalomos then began arguing with the two men.

Carbajal said she asked the woman if Jalomos had a knife, and the woman confirmed that he did. The woman claimed, though, that Jalomos had not brandished the knife at her and only pulled it out when the two other man approached them.

“I spoke to the individuals who were attempting to defuse the argument between (the woman) and Jalomos. The individuals stated as they spoke to Jalomos, Jalomos brandished the knife at them and began to motion at them, stating, ‘Come on, come on.’ The individuals all stated the knife Jalomos displayed had a curved blade. One of the men stated he felt threatened by Jalomos’ actions,” the officer reported.

Carbajal arrested Jalomos on the assault charge and transported him to the police station for processing.

While inventorying Jalomos’ property, Carbajal reported she found the small plastic baggie containing the white powdery substance that field-tested positive for cocaine. She then also charged Jalomos with the felony drug possession charge.

Justice of the Peace Pct. 2 Antonio Faz III set a bond of $5,000 in the case.
