NEWS — Man resists police, gets tased

On April 1st, 2025, at approximately 4:42 p.m. the Del Rio Police Department responded to the 1900 block of Avenue E for a disturbance in progress. Upon arrival, officers saw a male subject identified as Zheaya Yevaughn Xavier Williams; 28 yrs. of age engaging in a verbal altercation with a female who arrived at the scene.

Officers met with the caller, who was a household member of Williams. The caller had visible injuries to the face, hand, and legs allegedly caused by Williams.

As the caller explained to police what occurred, Williams attempted to walk inside his residence disregarding the police’s presence. Williams was ordered to remain outside while the officers conducted their investigation, but he refused to comply with any lawful orders.

Police attempted to detain Williams at which time he began to resist. Williams was taken to the ground in attempt to subdue him, but he continued to physically resist the officers.

An officer unholstered his taser and deployed the drive-stun feature onto Williams person, resulting in his compliance. Williams was arrested and charged with Assault Causes Bodily Injury/ Family Violence and Resisting Arrest Search or Transportation.

He was transported to the police station where he was processed and was later released to the custody of GEO Correctional Facility
