A Del Rio man has been arrested on a felony burglary charge after sheriff’s deputies recovered a variety of stolen power tools in the house where he was staying, Val Verde County Sheriff’s Office officials reported.

Jason Jonathan Eagles, 41, 410 West Third St., was arrested Monday by sheriff’s office deputies, VVSO Lt. Manuel “Manny” Herrera told the 830 Times on Friday. Eagles has been charged with the offenses of burglary of a habitation, a state jail felony, and of theft of property, greater than or equal to $750, less than $2,500, a Class A misdemeanor, Herrera said.

In an affidavit filed in the case, VVSO Deputy Warren Siller reported he was dispatched to 230 Kenwood Ave., on Aug. 15, “in regards to a caller stating that someone had stolen some tools from inside of a residence that is under construction.”

Siller reported when he arrived, he spoke with Jesus Gutierrez, who said when he arrived at the Kenwood Avenue site to begin working, he noticed someone had entered the house and stolen a number of tools. Gutierrez estimated the total value of the stolen tools at $2,421.

“Gutierrez showed (me) Ring camera footage of the suspect vehicle, a single-cab white Dodge truck with an extended bed in that area at approximately 9:11 a.m. on Aug. 15. (I) was also shown footage of a male subject who was walking into the property without consent of the owners and looking around,” Siller wrote.

Siller described the man seen on the Ring video as a Hispanic wearing a blue polo shirt, red short and red and blue tennis shoes.

“Shortly after, another complainant who resided in the area arrived on scene and stated that the same vehicle was at his residence over the weekend and reported that someone had stolen from his residence as well,” Siller wrote.

Siller said the second man identified the man on the Ring video as Eagles and said Eagles had previously worked for him.

The second man then provided Siller with an address for Eagles: 505 Esquivel St. in Del Rio.

Siller and VVSO Deputy Jesus Adams made their way to the Esquivel Street address, and Siller reported he saw the same white Dodge truck captured on the Ring footage outside the residence there.

“(I) made contact with the homeowner of 505 Esquivel St., who later advised Eagles to exit the residence. (I) made contact with Eagles and advised him the reason (I) was there. Eagles denied being in the area of Kenwood Avenue that morning and was shown photos of him and his vehicle in the area. Eagles also denied stealing tools from any of the residences in the Lake Ridge Ranch area,” Siller wrote.

Siller said he obtained verbal consent from the owner of the Esquivel Street property to search the residence.

“During the search, (I) located a duffel with tools, a Rigid stereo and an air compressor that were reported stolen from the original caller earlier in the morning,” Siller wrote.

Herrera said a variety of items were recovered from the Esquivel Street house, including a Porter cable 150 psi compressor, a Rigid portable stereo, a Rigid Sawzall, a Rigid bradgun, a Dewalt nail gun, a Dewalt cordless oscillating multi-tool, a Rigid power tool, a Rigid impact drill, a Dewalt 60-volt battery, a Rigid battery charger, a Rigid max output lithium 18V, a Husky hand scraper with a black handle, a Commercial electric screw driver, a Husky utility blade, an Apollo hand tool, an Orbit pipe cutter, a circular saw with bits in a gray case, a Diablo three-piece auger bit set with two pieces, an orange Rigid tool bag and a black duffel bag.

Siller reported he arrested Eagles and transported him to the sheriff’s office for processing.

Herrera said an investigation into the burglaries is ongoing and may include additional burglaries inside the Del Rio city limits.

Bonds totaling $17,000 were set in the two cases against Eagles by Justice of the Peace Pct. 1 Jesse James Trevino.
