Mayor Bruno “Ralphy” Lozano honored Humphreys’ Gun Shop 50th year in business with a proclamation designating May 3 as “50th Anniversary of Humphreys’ Gun Shop” Day in Del Rio.

Councilwoman Alejandra Falcon Calderon and Del Rio Main Street Manager Diego Rubio presented the proclamation to Gary Humphreys, gunsmith/proprietor of Humphreys’ Gun Shop, on Thursday during an open house at the business. The open house marked the beginning of the gun shop’s 50th year in operation in the Queen City.

Following a ribbon cutting ceremony hosted by the Del Rio Chamber of Commerce’s Red Carpet Ambassadors, Rubio read the proclamation.

“Whereas, it is fitting that the community of Del Rio should recognize and commend those exemplary businesses that, through an abiding commitment to excellence have become an example of resiliency and hard work for every business owner in Del Rio and the surrounding area; and

“Whereas, beginning on the third day of May, 1973, Humphreys’ Gun Shop opened its doors and began conducting business in Del Rio; and whereas, founded by Gary Humphreys, Humphreys’ Gun Shop started doing business from home in 1973; and

“Whereas, through his commitment, perseverance and providing service that is expected in a small-town atmosphere, expanded into having its own brick and mortar shop in downtown Del Rio; and whereas, Humphreys’ Gun Shop continues to do business in every state in the Union and several foreign countries and has become an important icon to the city’s Main Street District; and

“Whereas, on May 12, 2022, a celebration will take place commemorating Humphreys’ Gun Shop 50th anniversary of dedicated service, we find it appropriate to acknowledge and applaud this outstanding business; now, therefore, I, Bruno J. Lozano, mayor of the city of Del Rio, do hereby proclaim May 3 as “50th Anniversary of Humphreys’ Gun Shop,” Rubio read.

Rubio then presented the framed proclamation and a certificate of appreciation to Humphreys and his daughter Holly.
