Molcajetes restaurant grand opening is at 5 p.m. Friday in its new location at 901 Veterans Blvd.
Molcajetes owner Christian Mtanous first opened the restaurant on 808 Ave G. in February of 2019. He said he created the restaurant using his experience as a server over the years and had his parents’ help coming up with the name.
Molcajetes relocated to a larger building on Veterans Boulevard after Mtanous recently bought the new facility.
To stand out in Del Rio, Mtanous said the food at Molcajetes is made fresh every day. He said the restaurant staff also make sure customers get their food quickly.
“From our seafood to our signature dishes, we want to make sure you get a good dinner experience,” Mtanous said.
Isa Valdez, house manager, has been working for Mojacetes for four years, and she said (their team) has been going through lots of obstacles to get the restaurant going.
Some of the requests Mtanous said customers have mentioned include later dinner hours, more rooms, a dance floor and live music. He said they plan to open up a sports bar and additional private rooms for customers to reserve.
“Not only will you be getting good food and customer service, but you get that amazing music that can’t compare to anything else,” Mtanous said.
During Friday’s grand opening, live music with the band Alto Voltaje playing, which was the first band who performed for the restaurant when they opened on Avenue G.
Molcajetes is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday.
