SEL Realty, Del Rio’s newest real estate brokerage firm, cut the ribbon announcing they were open and ready for business Thursday, Nov. 21, at 308 E. Eighth St.
The event was heavily attended by members of the Del Rio and Del Rio Hispanic Chambers of Commerce, with about 150 people in attendance, at least 100 more than what is typical at most ribbon cuttings.
SEL Realty is a boutique real estate firm that is the offspring of a
family of local Realtors.
The husband-and-wife team of Sergio and Reyna Diaz are spearheading the endeavor, but working alongside them are their children, Sergio, Erica and Lisa. The business is named after the first letter of each child’s name, Sergio, Erica and Lisa, all adults now.
“This just goes to show you, when you name your kids, you have to think it through,” Sergio joked to the crowd standing around them as the sun set over his shoulder.
In addition, the family affair has Reyna as the real estate broker, Lisa is a mortgage broker/Realtor and the two Sergios and Erica are all agents in the boutique firm.
Reyna said being a boutique firm gives them a competitive advantage.
“We have the freedom to shape our business around what truly matters, which is serving families with care and integrity,” Reyna said. “We don’t follow a one-size-fits-all plan. We focus on what works best for our clients, all while upholding the highest ethical and legal standards. At the heart of our work is one family helping another, and that’s the way we believe it should be.”
“Having a mortgage broker and a real estate broker all on site makes us the only office in town that offers that option,” Reyna said.
Sergio quickly added: “You don’t have to drive all over Del Rio,” he said. “You stop by, and we’ll get you pre-approved and then start showing you houses.”
The 2,500-foot building houses the real estate family during the day, and of course, it was built by Sergio, who in addition to being a disc jockey with his own morning show and a Realtor, is also a general contractor.
Sergio, who also is a founding member of the Del Rio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and is constantly advocating on behalf of Del Rio, was proud to point out where all of his contractors came from.
“Everything about this building was built by Del Rio contractors, from the central air to the windows to the marble on the floor to the high-tech security system,” Sergio said, pointing around the building.
Reyna the mom and Reyna the broker are equally proud. “It is really nice for me because I know my clients are well taken care of by my family,” Reyna said. “I’m a proud mama bear.”
Sergio and Reyna said this wasn’t something they put on a vision board 10 years ago and worked towards.
“This was all God’s plan and we just followed it,” she said.
