City Manager Shawna Burkhart recently gave city council members a short update on a new citywide parking ordinance that will take effect Jan. 1.
Burkhart spoke about the efforts that will be made by city staff to educate the public
about a new citywide parking ordinance that will take effect Jan. 1.
“We will be rolling out information to all of the public on our parking ordinance so that
their questions are answered in a timely manner, and we will be doing that using the
addresses out of our utility database and sending a flyer to all of those that are in our
utility database, as well as using our website, putting a QR code on all of the information
that we put out, so that that will drive them back to our website, and all the information,
the dos and don’ts, of the parking ordinance,” Burkhart said.
She said although Jan. 1 will mark the start of the new ordinance, Del Rio residents will have a
month-long grace period to learn about the new rules.
“That ordinance, through your direction, will start Jan. 1, but we will have a ‘soft start’ in
January so that we will actually give courtesy notifications for 30 days prior to then going
out and notifying individuals of any violations,” Burkhart said.
Notification of violations will begin in February, the city manager added.
Burkhart said the city will use its Facebook page, flyer mail-outs, newspaper and radio
advertising to spread the word about the parking ordinance.
“We hope to cover all of our bases in education of the public on this ordinance,” Burkhart
said.
