The city’s new emergency management coordinator, Amanda Renee Aldaco, was introduced to the Del Rio City Council during its meeting July 11.
Aldaco joins the Del Rio’s emergency management team with the goal of assisting the community with resources and information for any and all emergency situations.
Aldaco was involved in helping with the community during the peak of the pandemic with Val Verde County. She served as a liaison for the local health authority to the Texas National Guard and local school district.
City Human Resources Director Mario Garcia introduced Aldaco to the council and mentioned her work experience during the pandemic. He added Aldaco worked closely with local health providers, conducted phone interviews with victims of the virus and assisted the National Guard and other health authorities when coordinating the regulations and COVID-19 testings.
Aldaco also worked as the big decisions district coordinator for the San Felipe Del Rio CISD where she implemented activities and worked with teachers and the Parents Program. She has earned a bachelor’s degree in criminology from Texas A&M University- Kingsville, Masters in National Security Studies, and has almost finished her master’s degree in emergency and disaster management from the American Public University Systems.
“I am grateful to be given the opportunity to help the community as Del Rio’s Emergency Management Coordinator. This isn’t just a job for me, it is a passion that I hold dear. I was with the Covid Task Force during the pandemic as well as my educational background in Emergency and Disaster Management and National Security Studies. I feel confident that my team along with the city and county will be able to pull our resources together and be prepared for anything that may come.” Aldaco said.
