Doctor Ashley Lopez will join the healthcare team at the Terry M. Lindsey Rural Health Clinic, 1200 N. Bedell Ave., starting Sept. 2.

Lopez is an obstetrician/gynecologist (OB/GYN) and said she is here to “work and provide for the community.” She told The 830 Times in a recent interview she believes Del Rio will be a good place to settle down and use her medical training to care for the community.

Lopez said she is a primarily a provider of healthcare for women in all stages of life. Her expertise focuses on clinical work, gynecologic surgery and obstetrics care for pregnant women.

“I’m excited to join VVRMC. My hope is to expand the access to the quality of all healthcare for women in the area,” Lopez said. “I will be able to provide care through pregnancy, deliver pregnancy through cesarean sections and also (handle) surgeries for women and anything that has to do with their reproductive organs, as well as preventative care.”

Lopez grew up in San Antonio, Texas, where she went to school for the majority of her studies.

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Texas at San Antonio in 2014 and finished medical school at the University of the Incarnate Word in 2021. She then entered a residency program at Texas Tech University in Midland, Texas, which she finished in July.

As for other achievements, Lopez was recognized by her residency program for portraying excellence in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and had one of her cases published in the green journal of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The case she was involved in dealt with reconstructing a uterus to preserve a patient’s fertility. She said being mentioned in the medical journal was a “big feat” for her career so far.

Lopez moved to Del Rio in June and has a connection with Del Rio through her husband, Juan Lopez Jr. She said the Del Rio community is very welcoming.

Aside from work, Lopez said she likes to spend time with friends and family, as well as reading and listening to podcasts.
