Sarah and Cade Sigmon are the new owners of an iconic Del Rio business and say they will carry on with the former owners’ commitment to quality merchandise and customer service.

The Sigmons celebrated their purchase of Russell’s True Value, 506 E. Gibbs St., with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the business Thursday. They were joined for the ceremony by Del Rio Chamber of Commerce staff, family, friends, long-time Russell’s employees and customers.

The Sigmons, who also own and operate Mesquite Creek Outfitters in Del Rio’s historic downtown, said they plan to carry on in the tradition of Russell’s long-time former owners, Sherry and Clayton Davenport.

“We are so excited about this opportunity. When we moved back to Del Rio, this is not something we were expecting, and the fact that we had the opportunity to take this business into another generation of ownership by another Del Rio family is really exciting for us,” Sarah Sigmon said after the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“The Davenports did an outstanding job of building this business and really taking it to the next level, and they handed us this beautiful package that we just want to keep moving forward with,” she added.

Sigmon said she and her husband are also “extremely grateful” that the entire Russell’s staff is staying on.

“We couldn’t do it without them. That was actually my first question to Mr. Davenport when he told us we had an opportunity to take this business on. I asked him, ‘Is anyone leaving?’ And when he said no, I said, let’s talk about it,” Sigmon said.

Sigmon said Russell’s is renowned for its excellent customer service, based on knowledgeable staff members, many of whom have worked for the store for decades.

“We’re grateful for the opportunity, and we hope we’ll make Del Rio proud,” Sigmon said.

Blanca Larson, Del Rio Chamber of Commerce executive director, said one of the best aspects of the Sigmons’ purchase of the store is that it not only showcases a Del Rio family coming home, but coming home to contribute.

“We’re so proud that a Del Rio family has come back here and is now reinvesting in the community. What a great opportunity for them and for us, because the investment that the Sigmons have made, not only in Del Rio’s downtown but also here at Russell’s True Value, will give us many years of great shopping experiences,” Larson said.

She also pointed out the Sigmons’ taking over the business means jobs will stay here in Del Rio.
