Del Rio Police Department press release
On January 29th, 2025 at 3:42 a.m. a Del Rio Police Department officer conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Veterans Blvd. and 14th Street on a vehicle after it was seen operating with no headlights when required.
Upon making contact with the female driver, the officer was able to smell a strong odor of marihuana emitting from the interior of the vehicle. The female driver denied having any marihuana in her possession but handed the officer a glass pipe commonly used to smoke narcotics. A search of the vehicle revealed a vial containing a crystal-like substance, and an additional smoking pipe.
Officers also located a large amount of collectible coins, and over $2,000.00 US currency in misc. bills. The collectible coins and currency were recovered and submitted as evidence, pending further investigation.
The female driver identified as Tania Soledad Ibarra; 32 years of age was arrested and transported to the police station where she was interviewed. Ibarra told police the collectible coins were stolen in a burglary outside of Del Rio’s jurisdiction. Ibarra also told police the US currency was a portion of the stolen coins that she was able to exchange at a local coin machine for bills. Del Rio Police Department has contacted the outside agency and will be providing all the information and evidence regarding the Burglary investigation.
Ibarra was arrested for the offense of Possession of Controlled Substance PG 1/1-B<1G. She was later released to the custody of Geo Correctional Facility.
