The National Weather Service on Friday morning said flood warnings remain in effect for portions of the Rio Grande and Devils River.
The warning continues for the following rivers:
- Rio Grande at Eagle Pass, affecting Maverick County.
- Devils River at Cauthorn Ranch near Juno, affecting Val Verde County.
- Devils River at Bakers Crossing, about 19 miles north of Comstock, affecting Val Verde County.
The warning for the Devils River at Cauthorn Ranch remains in effect until Saturday evening.
The National Weather Service forecasts minor flooding. As of 7:15 a.m. Friday, the river stage was 4.4 feet. Flood stage is 8.0 feet, and the river is expected to rise above flood stage this evening, cresting at 8.4 feet shortly after midnight before falling below flood stage Saturday morning.
At 8.0 feet, several low-water crossings on Highway 163 along the Devils River become flooded, and motorists could become stranded between crossings for several hours.
The National Weather Service urged motorists to avoid driving through flooded roads, reminding the public to “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.” Officials also cautioned people to use care when walking near riverbanks.
