NEWS — PD arrests alleged shooter

On 05/07/2025 at approximately 10:32 p.m. the Del Rio Police Department responded to the intersection of Avenue G and E. 12th St. regarding shots fired in the area.

Upon arrival police located an adult male with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Police sealed the wound and waited for Emergency Medical Services to arrive and transport the victim to Val Verde Regional Medical Center for medical attention.

Police located the crime scene in the 800 block of East 11th Street where damaged vehicle parts and shell casings were found. Police recovered surveillance footage from the area depicting a suspect’s vehicle. Based on the video evidence, police identified the registered owner of the suspect’s vehicle.

A follow-up investigation revealed the suspect’s vehicle was being driven by a relative of the owner. Police prepared a BOLO (be on the look-out) bulletin and shared information with neighboring agencies.

The morning of 05/08/2025 the suspect’s vehicle was detained at the US Border Patrol Uvalde Checkpoint. The suspect’s vehicle was occupied by the sole driver identified as Eric Castillo; 36 years of age.

Castillo was interviewed by police, but he refused to provide any details of the incident. Castillo was arrested for the offense of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Castillo was transported to the Del Rio Police Department for processing and the suspect’s vehicle was towed away pending evidence processing.

Currently the victim remains in stable condition and is expected to be released from the medical facility
