NEWS — Del Rio police arrest two after break-in

On June 2, 2023, at approximately 4:50 p.m., Del Rio Police Department officers responded to the 300 block of East Garfield for a burglary of a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers met with the complainant who reported his vehicle had been burglarized. The complainant reported a handgun, several keys, and an iPhone were stolen from the interior of his vehicle.

At approximately 8:45 P.M., officers conducted a follow-up investigation at a residence located at the 100 block of Waters Street. Officers contacted a female at the location who was found to be in possession of the stolen iPhone. The female provided officers with a fictitious name and date of birth. She was later identified as Jennifer Yvette Hernandez.

Officers located Hernandez’s boyfriend walking near the area.  The male was identified as Juan Garza, who was found to be in possession of the stolen handgun. Upon further investigation, officers located the stolen keys along with other property. All items were recovered and submitted as evidence.

Garza, 22 years of age, was arrested for theft of a firearm. Garza’s computerized criminal history revealed he was a convicted felon and was also charged with the offense of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

Hernandez, 30 years of age, was arrested and charged with the offense of fail to identify fugitive intent to give false name. Hernandez was also arrested for two outstanding TCIC arrest warrants out of Dallas County for the offense of possession of controlled substance penalty, group 1, and credit card/debit card abuse.
