SFDR-CISD press release

At approximately 5:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, a community member notified law enforcement officials, via the 911 system, that an individual had gained access to Lamar Elementary.

The suspect was able to scale the fence on McLymont St., and was then able to find an unsecured door to the school’s cafeteria. City of Del Rio Police in conjunction with San Felipe Del Rio CISD Police immediately responded to the call and were able to find and detain the individual.

It is unclear if the individual was fleeing from someone or seeking medical attention. Law enforcement agencies will continue their investigation to determine details of the events prior to the individual coming onto school grounds.

It is important to note that students were not on campus at the time of the event. School district officials have conducted a thorough review of video surveillance footage and have determined necessary improvements to our building and perimeter security.

SFDRCISD would like to extend our appreciation to the community member that made the 911 call. We are also indebted to our local law enforcement agencies who continue to place the well-being of our students as a top priority
