NEWS — PD nabs 72-year-old for alleged theft

On February 19th, 2025, at approximately 3:00p.m. a Del Rio Police Department officer responded to Wal-Mart located at 2410 Dodson Avenue regarding a theft.

A 74-year-old male victim reported his wallet was stolen at the location. The victim reported he purchased several items and walked out of the store without realizing he left his wallet on the register counter.

The victim reported the wallet contained his various forms of identification and a large amount of US currency.

Police reviewed surveillance video and saw a female approach the same register after the victim.

The female grabbed the wallet and concealed it as she walked into the restroom.

The female departed the business without making any attempts to return the wallet to a business associate nor contacted police.

Police utilized the Del Rio Police Department Facebook page as a tool in attempt to identify the female suspect by posting an image of her and a companion.

On February 20th, 2025, Police were notified by a Kinney County Sheriff’s Deputy that the females were Brackettville, TX residents.

Investigation revealed only one of the females participated in the theft. An arrest warrant was obtained against the female suspect identified as Maria Guadalupe Talamantes, 72 yrs. of age.

On Feb. 20th, 2025, at approximately 5:25 p.m. police executed the arrest warrant with no incident and recovered most of the US currency, the wallet and the victim’s identifications.

The property was processed and returned to the owner.

Talamantes was arrested and charged with the offense of Theft of Property >=$2500<$30,000 Enhanced. She was processed at the police station and was later released into the custody of GEO Correctional Facility.
