Del Rio Police Department press release
On February 2nd, 2025 at 12:27 p.m. the Del Rio Police Department responded to the 300 block of Borroum Street regarding two javelinas.
The caller reported the animals had attacked people in the area.
Upon arrival the officers discovered one of the javelinas was inside a residential car garage. Animal Control was requested to assist in the removal of the animal.
Val Verde Sheriff’s Office Animal Control arrived at the scene and successfully tranquilized and removed the animal. One javelina was removed from the area, while one remained at large.
If you encounter a javelina, you are urged to call the Animal Control Department. These animals usually cause minor problems for people by destroying their gardens but javelinas can be dangerous and may cause injuries to pets and humans.
Although attacks on humans are rare javelinas may cause serious damage if they feel threatened. These animals are strong and have sharp tusks, so catching javelinas by surprise or cornering them can be extremely dangerous.
