A “person of interest” has been detained in connection with the murder of a woman in Cienegas Terrace.

Jose Ignacio Solis, no age or address available, was detained in Mexico on Friday, Val Verde County Sheriff Joe Frank Martinez told the 830 Times in a telephone interview Saturday morning.

The sheriff emphasized, however, that Solis is being held on charges unrelated to the murder of Mirosalva Martinez, 48, a resident of the Cienegas Terrace neighborhood just outside the Del Rio city limits.

Martinez was reportedly shot twice at her home on Fir Street in Cienegas Terrace about 8:30 a.m. Monday. She was rushed to the hospital, where she died of her injuries.

Sheriff Martinez said Saturday that Solis was detained in a cooperative effort that included sheriff’s office investigators and officers with the U.S. Marshal’s Service and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

“He (Solis) was turned over to U.S. officials at the Del Rio Port of Entry at 10 p.m. Friday. He is being considered a person of interest in the Martinez murder, but he is in custody on unrelated charges,” the sheriff said.

The sheriff’s office is still seeking information on the murder. Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call (800) 674-VVSO (8876). Community members can also text information and tips to (830) 308-7366.
