NEWS — Phishing scam targets SFDRCISD students

SFDR-CISD press release

Recently, the San Felipe Del Rio CISD addressed two separate reports of phishing emails
that appeared to offer students an opportunity to apply for a part-time job.

These e-mails appeared to come from at least two teachers but were not sent by them. The e-mails were
sent to various middle and high school students across the district.

The email contained a link to a form that requested information from the recipient. Some
users who received these emails opened the email and entered personal information, such
as their name, address, and phone number.

Then, they were sent a text message that asked for their bank account information. We understand that is where users became suspicious and reported it.

While the District operates a high level of network security, anti-virus, and monitoring systems in place, nothing is 100% foolproof.

The best defense is our staff and students (technology users), who we ask to be conscientious of any e-mails that may look suspicious, and may even not appear to be suspicious.

We want to thank the students and staff who brought the phishing email to the attention of our District’s Technology Department, who immediately were able to retract the e-mails from any user who received it.

We highly encourage parents and students to continue to monitor their e-mail accounts and report any issues that arise.
