Police said they found an amount of methamphetamine crystals in a car and arrested its driver for felony drug possession.
Nathan Anthony Hernandez, 21, 110 Margaret Lane, who also lists a residence address in Cross Plains, Texas, was arrested about 3:15 a.m. on Dec. 5, according to a report released recently by the Del Rio Police Department. Hernandez was charged with the offense of possession of a controlled substance, Penalty Group 1, greater than or equal to four grams, less than 200 grams, a second-degree felony, the report on his arrest shows.
In an affidavit filed in the case, DRPD Officer Terri Rogers reported she was dispatched to 301 Rio Grande St., after police were called about a suspicious vehicle in the area.
“Vehicle was observed by the caller with two occupants while the driver kept flashing his lights on and off. Upon arrival, (I) observed a parked vehicle with one male occupant located in the driver’s seat. The male subject exited the vehicle quickly and began to walk towards (me) as (I) exited the patrol unit,” Rogers wrote.
“The male subject was shaking and stuttering as he spoke to (me). The male subject was reluctant to identify himself, but was later identified as Nathan Hernandez. (DRPD) Officer Michael Cummings observed a baggie of a green leafy substance and a scale located on the front passenger seat. (I) placed Hernandez in handcuffs and escorted him to (the) patrol unit,” Rogers continued.
Rogers said she and Cummings then “conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle due to the green leafy substance and scale in plain view.”
“During the search, officers located a clear plastic baggie containing 6.6 grams of a green leafy substance which field tested positive for marijuana. Officers also located a small jar in the center console, which was later found to contain 1.2 grams of a brown wax-like substance believed to be concentrated THC,” Rogers said.
The officer reported she and Cummings also discovered a black box, which contained 167.5 grams of a white, crystal-like substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
Rogers reported she placed Hernandez under arrest for possession of a controlled substance and took him to the police station for booking and processing.
Justice of the Peace Pct. 1 Jesse James Treviño set a bail amount of $20,000 in the case.
