Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Saturday, Oct. 24, at a residence in the 200 block of Ricks Drive.
Local and state law enforcement officers responded to a “shots fired” call about 10:25 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at a residence in the 200 block of Ricks Drive.
Five Del Rio Police Department vehicles and one Texas Department of Public Safety vehicle were seen outside the residence.
The residence had crime scene tape in the front and back yards, and an older man was sitting on the ground outside the residence in the company of a police officer in the front yard.
Several other police officers could be seen in the backyard, apparently looking for evidence.
An ambulance from Val Verde Regional Medical Center arrived, and the man who had been sitting on the ground was escorted into it. The man being checked by medical personnel was apparently the homeowner.
Officers at the scene also appeared to search a vacant lot across the street from the residence.
Law enforcement officers also went to the Val Verde Lodge No. 646, 704 N. Bedell Ave., where they also appeared to be looking for evidence related to the incident.
As more information was broadcast on police radios, it was reported that a homeowner told police a person had entered his home while he was sleeping.
The homeowner also told police he went to get his pistol and fired a shot.
The homeowner said after he fired, he noticed a blood trail on the floor of his house and called police.
The extent of the suspected intruder’s injuries was not known, and as of press time, it was not known if the person had been located.
