Val Verde County Judge Lewis G. Owens Jr. said AEP Texas officials said an outage that affected about 7,000 local accounts this afternoon was caused by “a problem at the south substation,” which was being resolved as of 4 p.m. today.
Owens said priorities for power restoration were Val Verde Regional Medical Center and the Del Rio Civic Center, because of early voting in progress there. Owens said early voting was briefly interrupted by the outage, but noted county officials had planned for such an event, and emergency generators were standing by.
The generators were used for emergency lighting, and voting was able to continue. Owens said as of 4 p.m., AEP officials told him that power had mostly been restored to the 7,000 affected accounts
