After a relatively dry August, the first few days of September have been wet, with several inches of rain drenching Del Rio overnight.

Del Rioans driving back to school and work after the long Labor Day weekend had to navigate streets that had turned into rivers and low-water crossings flowing with runoff.

Peter Ojeda, director of communications for the city of Del Rio, told The 830 Times via text this morning the Del Rio Fire Department responded to calls for several stranded vehicles across the city.

According to a climate report published on the site of the National Weather Service (NWS), a total of 2.14 inches of rain had fallen on the city between midnight Monday and 7 a.m. Tuesday. The total amount of rainfall is expected to increase as rains continue through the morning, and the NWS earlier issued a flood advisory for the county.

NWS data also shows Del Rio has received an official total of 4.13 inches of rain since Sunday, Sept. 1. The city has received a total of 7.59 inches of rain since the first of the year, just over six inches less than its normal rainfall by this time of the year, which is listed as 13.78 inches.
