The Mexican American School Board Association (MASBA) recognized San Felipe Del Rio Consolidated Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Carlos Rios during a gala and awards ceremony held Oct. 6-8.

Among the awards presented in various categories, Rios was awarded with the Outstanding Superintendent Award for his work on closing achievement gaps in our public schools, particularly for the Latinx students who comprise a majority in the public schools of Texas. Specifically, Rios was recognized for the district’s high school redesign concept that opened up opportunities for students to attend Early College High School, Blended Academy and the Gerardo Maldonado CTE Center in preparation for college, career and the workforce.

The nomination submission for this award included his most recent work with stakeholders in the development of the 2022-2027 Strategic Plan.
