The San Felipe Exes 2025 Reunion will celebrate the legacy of San Felipe High School (SFHS) Friday, July 4, and Saturday, July 5.
Close to 300 people will be coming together to celebrate the
memory of SFHS, which was
closed down after the last graduating class in 1971. The reunion events are open to the
community, and there will be a $65 general admission for the two-day events.
Rose Rizo, board member of the San Felipe Ex-Students Memorial Association, said the previous reunion events emitted the energy of “one big party.””
“We come together and reminisce like a big family; (SFHS) was more like a family than just classes at a school,” Rizo said.
The theme of this year’s reunion focuses on the athletes of San Felipe. Rizo said they are going to recognize several athletes, including Larvell Blanks, who graduated in 1969 from SFHS.
Blanks will be recognized at 11 a.m. at the San Felipe Ex-Student Memorial Center, located at 500 W. Garza St., for his outstanding achievement in sports as a major league baseball player.
Leandro Rodriguez, Heriberto Urby and Frank Sanchez, who passed recently in 2025, will be recognized for their achievements as the SFHS 1948 regional champion football players.
The event starts on Friday, July 4, with Mass at 8 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, located at 509 W. Garza St., and breakfast will follow at 9 a.m. at the San Felipe Ex-
Student Memorial Center.
Rizo said the SFHS museum, located at the San Felipe Ex-Student Memorial Center, will be open all day on Friday for families and new visitors to tour and learn about the history of SFHS and San Felipe as a whole.
On Saturday, July 5, there will be the Purple and Gold Parade taking place at 10 a.m. on Garza Street and ending at Brown Plaza. Blanks will be the parade marshal along with Urby and
Rodriguez as the grand marshals. Rizo said they are inviting floats from the Fourth of July parade who want to participate as long as they incorporate purple and gold, the official colors of
the parade, with their floats.
Later in the evening, the Del Rio Civic Center will open its doors at 6 p.m. for the San Felipe Exes Reunion get-together/dance. Music will be provided by LA45, a Latin music band from San
Antonio, and Eva “Chacha” Macias. The event will also include a pep rally, meals and door prizes with gift cards.
