City of Del Rio Police Department press release
On June 8th, 2024 at 6:05p.m. the Del Rio Police Department responded to the Moore Park regarding a stabbing in progress. The caller provided clothing description of two male subjects and stated both males were armed with knives.
Upon arrival, police located one of the males who had suffered several stab wounds; EMS was requested for a medical evaluation. The subject’s injuries were not life threatening and he refused further medical treatment.
The second male was seen running towards the Romanelli Park, police asked the second male to stop but he disregarded police. Police pursued the second male and detained him near Stanley Street. The male had a laceration to his thumb but refused medical treatment. The male was identified as Gustavo Barboza.
Police learned Barboza had previously approached the other male and requested money from him. The male gave him $2.00 and Barboza walked away but returned demanding more money while brandishing a knife. Police learned the male victim displayed a knife as self-defense causing Barboza to stab him several times. Witnesses at the park corroborated the story.
Gustavo Barboza; 45 yrs. of age was arrested for Aggravated Robbery, Evading Arrest Detention with previous convictions, Resisting Arrest Search and Transportation, Tamper/Fabricate Physical Evidence with intent to impair. Barboza was transported to the police station for processing and was later released to the custody of GEO Correctional Facility
