Employees of the San Felipe Del Rio CISD are getting some aid from the federal government due to funding lost during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The school district’s board of trustees unanimously approved a compensation plan for the 2021-22 school year that would give employees a four percent increase in pay. For educators, that means a pay raise of $2,300 beginning in the fall semester.

“Each year, we look to try to provide our teachers with the largest pay increase we can, while still aiming to have a balanced budget,” stated Board President Raymond Meza. “Typically, with the costs of running a school, sometimes we can only afford a two percent increase at most, and at times none.”

The increases were agreed upon during the board’s June 7 meeting. It was at that meeting the school board learned of the additional funds the district would receive from the federal government to help recover those funds lost due to the pandemic.

According to the school district, the additional funds would also bump up the starting salary for new teachers to $50,250.

The compensation plan’s total amount is $4,306,774. The increase to the health insurance fund for employees will be $1,440,00.
