Families on the city’s north side of town will soon have a new elementary school their children can call home.
Earlier this month, the San Felipe Del Rio CISD’s Board of Trustees and Superintendent Dr. Carlos Rios officially broke ground on construction of the newest elementary school in Del Rio and Val Verde County. The new school, which does not as yet have an official name, is being built just off Argarita Drive.
The project is expected to be completed in time for the 2022-23 school year.
The school was the driving force behind a $19 million bond approved by voters. According to the school district, the school’s location is intended to address the rapid growth to the north of the school district. The school will be located south of the water towers.
“This week, construction of the new elementary school will begin,” Rios said in a release issued by the school district. “I want to congratulate our board of trustees for their vision and courage. It is not easy to make the decision to pursue a second bond election after the first one failed. Yet, our board has always looked toward the future and looked out for the interest of our community.”
“I would also like to thank ERO Architects and Amistad Consulting for their work throughout the planning phase, and look forward to the work J.P. Sanchez Construction will do in the construction phase,” Rios added.
