Val Verde County Sheriff Joe Frank Martinez today announced the arrest of a man and a woman in connection with the shooting death of a 27-year-old Del Rio woman.
“Investigative efforts between Val Verde County Sheriff’s Office investigators, the Del Rio Police Department, Texas Rangers and federal law enforcement partners led to the arrest of Ernesto Alejandro Olguin, 23, and Clarissa Guadalupe Guerra, 23, on unrelated charges,” Martinez said in a prepared statement he released late this afternoon.
Both Olguin and Guerra are believed to be Del Rio residents.
The sheriff said VVSO investigators “were able to secure arrest warrants for Olguin and Guerra for murder, a first-degree felony” earlier today.
Sheriff’s office deputies were dispatched to the San Felipe Cemetery on Sunday morning after a man tending the graves of relatives found the body of Del Rioan Sandra De La Cruz, 27, lying facedown on a gravel road at the edge of the burial ground.
Martinez earlier this week confirmed De La Cruz “was shot multiple times.”
Martinez said Monday that Olguin, who was being sought as a person of interest in the investigation, and Guerra were taken into custody Sunday night as they were driving out of Del Rio.
The sheriff said today, “Olguin and Guerra remain at the Val Verde Correctional Facility pending magistration.”
