A Slaton, Texas, woman has been charged with robbery after she allegedly assaulted a Walmart employee while trying to steal a television from the store, police said.

Chrisy Ann Gonzales, 35, of Slaton, was arrested about 10 p.m. on Feb. 11 and charged with the offense of robbery, a second-degree felony, according to a report released by the Del Rio Police Department.

In an affidavit filed in the case, DRPD Officer Christian Lopez reported he was dispatched to Walmart, 2410 Dodson Ave., in reference to an assault.

Lopez said when he arrived at the west side parking lot of the store, he noticed a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper standing outside his marked patrol unit with its overhead emergency lights on.

Lopez wrote the trooper had detained a woman, identified as Gonzales, adding Gonzales had been involved in an altercation with another woman.

The alleged victim of the assault was identified as Rosario Esquivel, a Walmart manager, Lopez said. He added Esquivel was transported to Val Verde Regional Medical Center following the assault.

“Esquivel provided a victim statement. In the statement, Esquivel stated she was contacted by an employee, a door greeter, who had stopped Gonzales to ask Gonzales to present the receipt for the television she was exiting the store with,” Lopez wrote.

“Esquivel stated Gonzales was not being cooperative with her in resolving the situation and did not present a receipt for the TV. Esquivel stated Gonzales became defensive and pushed her,” the officer added in his affidavit.

Lopez said witnesses corroborated Esquivel’s account of the incident, telling him that when Esquivel confronted Gonzales, Gonzales became defensive and attacked Esquivel.

Lopez also reported that Gonzales had passed the last point of sale when she was asked about the TV and that Gonzales had no wallet, cash, credit or debit cards in her possession.

Lopez reported he arrested Gonzales for robbery and transported her to the police station for booking and processing.
