NEWS — State Rep Eddie Morales releases statement on SRSU Eagle Pass expansion

Statement from State Rep. Eddie Morales

ONE STEP CLOSER TO A FOUR-YEAR COLLEGE IN EAGLE PASS Sul Ross State University (SRSU) completed the purchase of 43 acres of land in Eagle Pass to serve as the site of the future SRSU International campus, offering four-year degree programs – the first of its kind for our region.

Since being elected to the Texas House, I have been committed to providing more higher education opportunities for our region, letting students achieve their college education here at home. This past session, I passed HB 1022 alongside Senator Cesar Blanco to create this opportunity.

Research conducted by the Texas State University System and Hanover Research found demand in our region for programs in finance, engineering, information science, construction technology, computer information systems, and health-related fields. Thanks to the work done this session, the Legislature secured $2.5 million annually in funding for the development of these programs. This is a critical step forward to allowing our region to grow, retain our workforce, and allow students and families more quality-affordable options to pursue their higher education.

I remain committed to working with Sul Ross State University, the Texas State University System, and local leaders as this project continues forward.
