The following incidents were among those Del Rio Police Department officers recently responded:
Felony warrants
On Feb. 1, at 9:44 a.m., DRPD Officer Darian Castro was dispatched to the 1100 block of West De La Rosa Street to conduct “a welfare check on a male subject who was on the ground,” according to DRPD Cpl. Dulce Gonzalez. Castro reported when he arrived, he spoke with the man, identified as Marcos Olivares, 30, 114 Dennis Drive. Castro said when he ran a warrants check on Olivares, he learned Olivares was wanted on a warrant for a parole violation on the initial offense of injury to a child/elderly, a first-degree felony. Castro arrested Olivares, took him to the police department for booking and processing and later transported him to the county detention center.
On Jan. 28, at 5:32 p.m., DRPD Senior Officer Rolando Carbajal was dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of East Sixth Street in reference to an unwanted man on the premises. Carbajal reported when he arrived, he encountered the man, identified as Miguel Angel Patino, 35, 604 W. First St. Carbajal said when he ran a warrants check on Patino, he learned Patino was wanted on warrants out of the Val Verde County Sheriff’s Office for the offenses of robbery, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and assault causing bodily injury/family violence. Carbajal reported he confirmed all three warrants and arrested Patino. He said he then took Patino to the police station for booking and processing. Patino was later transported to the county detention center.
Forgery/Scam
On Feb. 2, at 6:18 p.m., DRPD Officer Luis Gomez was dispatched to the Family Dollar, 600 Dr. Fermin Calderon Boulevard, in regards to a scam call. When he arrived, he spoke with the store’s assistant manager, who said he had received a call about 2:15 p.m. and spoke to a man who told the assistant manager he was on the call with other store managers from the area. The man advised an $8,000 shipment was on its way to the Del Rio store from Brackettville, and the man on the phone said a portion of the cost of the shipment was needed before it could be delivered. The assistant manager said he was provided with a tracking number and the truck driver’s name and was instructed to take $3,260 and deposit the amount into a local bitcoin ATM, which the assistant manager did. After completing the transaction, the assistant manager called the manager and advised her he had completed the transaction. The manager had no knowledge about the shipment or the phone call, and the assistant manager became suspicious and contacted CoinCloud in an attempt to cancel the transaction, but was unable to do so. DRPD Cpl. Dulce Gonzalez said the incident is still under investigation.
Stolen/recovered vehicle
On Feb. 4, at 11:02 p.m., DRPD Senior Officer Vicente Hernandez took a report about a stolen vehicle from Del Rio resident Jaime Rodriguez at the police station. Rodriguez said he had gone to the Buzzard Roost Bar, 4411 Veterans Blvd., the previous night and left the bar with a friend, leaving his vehicle parked outside. Rodriguez said when he returned to the bar on Feb. 4 to retrieve the vehicle, he discovered it was gone. After learning the vehicle hadn’t been towed, he reported the vehicle, a white 2018 Ford Fusion, stolen. At 11:08 a.m. on Feb. 5, DRPD Senior Officer Alexandro Serrano was dispatched to the 2000 block of Lausen Road in reference to a stolen vehicle that had been located by a Val Verde County Sheriff’s Office deputy. When he arrived, Serrano spoke to the deputy, who said she had received a call about an unknown vehicle parked on a resident’s property at 1 Trullender Road. When she ran the license plate, she learned the vehicle had been reported stolen. Serrano said the vehicle had been driven into a ditch along the road. The vehicle was processed at the scene, with DNA swabs, fingerprints and photographs taken. The vehicle was then towed, and the owner was notified. DRPD Cpl. Dulce Gonzalez said the incident remains under investigation.
