Several severe thunderstorms that moved through Val Verde County Tuesday afternoon and evening drenched Del Rio with several inches of rain and pelted parts of the city and surrounding communities with hail up to an inch wide.

Minor property damage from the storms was reported, including a portion of a roof torn from a building at Kings Way and Amistad Boulevard.

High winds that accompanied the storms also brought tree limbs crashing down and sent trash carts and outdoor furniture flying across lawns.

No official rainfall total from Tuesday’s storms is available for Del Rio. The total precipitation section of the National Weather Service climate report for Tuesday lists that figure as “missing data.”

The 830 Times reached out to Del Rio meteorologist Daniel Schreiber, who provided rainfall totals from several locations around the area.

Schreiber said 1.56 inches of rain were recorded in the Frontera/Industrial Boulevard area in south Del Rio, 2.92 inches of rain were recorded in the Alta Vista area in central Del Rio, 3.10 inches of rain were recorded in the Ceniza Hills area of north Del Rio and 1.36 inches of rain were recorded at San Pedro Point near Lake Amistad.

Members of Laughlin Air Force Base’s public affairs office told The 830 Times the base recorded a total of 1.6 inches of rain on Tuesday.

The National Weather Service climate summary for Tuesday shows the record rainfall for March 10 is 1.29 inches, recorded in 2016.

The NWS report also shows that before Tuesday, Del Rio had received less than half an inch of rain since the beginning of the year.

Tuesday night’s rains were the heaviest Del Rio has seen in more than four months. The last significant rainfall occurred Oct. 24, 2025.

In 2025, Del Rio received a total of 7.61 inches of rain, according to the National Weather Service.
