Del Rio business owners Ana and Jorge Suday were honored during Tuesday’s city council meeting for assistance they provided the city during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mayor Bruno “Ralphy” Lozano and Interim City Manager John Sheedy presented the Sudays with a certificate of appreciation from the city for the use of a portion of the parking lot outside of one of their businesses as a COVID-19 testing site.
“Mayor, city council members, in mid-October last year, we were in need of a location for placement of a COVID testing kiosk, and we were looking for a high-visibility location on Veterans Boulevard. We received word almost immediately after we began looking from a local businessman, Mr. Jorge Suday, who was offering his parking lot as a location for us to place the kiosk,” Sheedy told the council.
“For the next nine months, Mr. Suday worked with the Curative Group, with the city of Del Rio and with the Val Verde County/City of Del Rio COVID Task Force to work through various parking concerns and tenant concerns to ensure that we were able to maintain that location, so at this time, the city of Del Rio would like to offer this certificate of appreciation to Mr. Jorge Suday,” the interim city manager added.
Sheedy thanked Suday and his wife Ana Suday for their “commitment to supporting the city in our battle against COVID during these long months.”
“Thank you on behalf of the entire city,” Lozano said as he and Sheedy presented the Sudays with the certificate.
The mayor and interim city manager also led the council and audience members in a round of applause for the Sudays and their generosity.
