NEWS — Suspect arrested after ranch burglary; stolen tools recovered

The following information was provided by the Del Rio Police Department.

On April 19, 2026, at approximately 6:20 p.m., an officer with the Del Rio Police Department responded to the 2000 block of North Bedell Avenue in reference to a reported burglary of a building that had already occurred.

Upon arrival, the officer met with the complainant, who reported that an unknown individual had entered a tack room located on his ranch off Jap Lowe Drive and removed several power tools without consent. While searching the property, the complainant discovered a tarp in a brush-covered area concealing the stolen tools, along with an unfamiliar military-style backpack bearing a logo.

The complainant returned to the tack room to retrieve his vehicle in order to recover the tools. When he went back to the brush area, he observed that the backpack was no longer there, leading him to believe the suspect had been hiding nearby.

After securing his property, the complainant exited the ranch and observed a male subject walking near the 2000 block of North Bedell Avenue carrying the same backpack. During a brief verbal encounter, the subject admitted to committing the burglary, and law enforcement was contacted.

Officers arrived on scene and identified the suspect as Edward Abendroth, 52 years of age. During a field interview, Abendroth admitted to entering and remaining inside the tack room, claiming he did so due to inclement weather.

Abendroth was placed under arrest and charged with Burglary of a Building. He was transported to the Del Rio Police Department for processing and was later released to the custody of the GEO Correctional Facility pending magistration.
