Drug Enforcement Administration officials confirmed Thursday they netted three members of the Sinaloa Cartel in a Wednesday morning raid on Hill Street.
“All we can say is, in a joint effort, we executed an arrest and search warrant and took three individuals into custody,” said Sally Sparks, Drug Enforcement Agency Public Affairs Officer. “All three of those individuals had ties to the Sinaloa Cartel.”
The agencies involved in the effort, led by the Drug Enforcement Agency, were the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Homeland Security Investigations and the Val Verde County Sheriff’s Office.
Other than giving out the very basics of the effort, the DEA wasn’t releasing names or any other details yet.
Sparks said the case is in the hands of the Assistant United States Attorney.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office was equally tight lipped. “I’ll decline to comment at this time,” said Michael Lahrman, United States Attorney’s Office Public Affairs Officer.
According to the DEA’s National Drug Threat Assessment, the Sinaloa Cartel, “also known as the Cártel de Sinaloa or the Guzmán-Loera Organization, is one of the most powerful and enduring drug trafficking organizations in the world. Based in the Mexican state of Sinaloa, the cartel has played a dominant role in the international drug trade for decades.”
