Two men and a woman have been arrested and charged with robbery after allegedly stealing from a Del Rio man at gunpoint, police said.
Mark Anthony Jimenez, 20, 1301 Brodbent Ave.; Sebastian Juarez, 18, 105 Ridgemont St.; and Alleena Nikole Soto, 203 Noriega St., were arrested July 22 and have each been charged with the offense of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, a first-degree felony, according to arrest reports released recently by the Del Rio Police Department.
In an affidavit filed in the case, DRPD Detective Joshua Garcia reported members of the police department’s patrol division were dispatched to the Five Points Market, 610 Dr. Fermin Calderon Blvd., at 1:57 a.m. on July 7 after a man called police to report he had been robbed.
DRPD Officer Luis Gomez arrived and took a report from a man identified as Abram Sanchez who told police that at 1:40 a.m. on July 7, he had gone to visit an old friend, identified as Soto.
“Sanchez stated Soto posted on her Instagram saying she was bored and needed someone to hang out with. Sanchez stated he replied to her post in which he agreed to meet with Soto at her residence, located at 103 Arranaga Ave.,” Garcia wrote.
Sanchez told police that when he arrived, he saw Soto leaving the house at 109 Arranaga Ave. When Soto got into his pickup truck, Sanchez said he asked her if she lived at 109 or 103 Arranaga, and she told him she lived at 109 Arranaga Ave.
Sanchez also told police while talking to Soto, she asked if she could see and wear Sanchez’s necklace, which was gold-colored with a cross pendant. Sanchez said he and Soto continued talking until he saw two men in the area. He said when he asked Soto if she knew the two men, she told him she didn’t know them.
A few minutes later, Sanchez said, the two men walked closer to his truck, and he said Soto told him the two “could be ‘her cousins’.” Sanchez said he began to feel uncomfortable and asked Soto to give back his necklace, but she claimed to have trouble taking it off.
“Sanchez stated the two males approached the driver and passenger sides of the truck. Sanchez stated the driver side and passenger side windows were rolled down. Sanchez stated he was then held at gunpoint from the driver side. Sanchez identified the male with the gun as Sebastian Juarez. Sanchez stated Juarez told him ‘he would blow his head off if he didn’t give them his things.’ Sanchez, in fear for his life and safety, gave Juarez $12 in U.S. currency and a Border Federal Credit Union debit card with an amount of $293.61,” Garcia wrote.
Sanchez identified the man on the passenger side of the truck as Mark Anthony Jimenez and said he knew both Juarez and Jimenez from school.
“After Jimenez and Juarez took Sanchez’s property, Soto exited the vehicle and gave Jimenez the necklace she refused to give back to Sanchez. Sanchez valued the necklace at approximately $2,600,” Garcia wrote.
Sanchez told police as he drove away from the area, he heard three gunshots, but said he wasn’t sure if the gun had been fired in his direction or in the air. He said he drove to the Five Points Market and called police.
Later that morning, around 3 a.m., Officer Gomez was patrolling on Brodbent Avenue when he saw a small sedan driving with its headlights off. Gomez pulled the vehicle over and identified its driver as Jimenez and the passenger as Soto.
“From previous interactions, officers were aware Jimenez is an active Tango Blast Orejon gang member and is known to carry firearms. While speaking to Jimenez and Soto, officers noticed Soto had a gold cross pendant around her neck, matching the description of the gold cross pendant stolen from Sanchez a couple hours prior. Officers then noticed Jimenez was wearing a gold necklace that matched the description of the necklace that was stolen from Sanchez,” Garcia wrote.
A photo of the jewelry was sent to Sanchez, who confirmed it was his. The officers then seized the jewelry from Jimenez and Soto and released them pending further investigation.
On July 21, Sanchez identified Juarez, Jimenez and Soto from photo lineups.
Following the identification, Garcia obtained arrest warrants for the three, and those warrants were served the following day.
A bond of $175,000 was set for each of the three co-defendants by Justice of the Peace Pct. 1 Jesse James Trevino.
