Two men in separate vehicles that disregarded a barricade at a low water crossing after recent rains found themselves with bigger problems than simple traffic tickets, Del Rio police reported.
Jonathan Giovany Guardado, 18, 501 W. Garza St., and David Alejandro Carrillo Rios, 31, a resident of Saltillo, Coah., Mexico, were arrested on Sept. 3, according to reports released recently by the Del Rio Police Department. Guardado was charged with the offense of evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, a third-degree felony, and Carrillo was charged with the offense of evading arrest or detention, a Class A misdemeanor, the arrest reports show.
In an affidavit filed in the cases, DRPD Senior Officer Nadine Terrazas reported on Sept. 3 at 4:17 a.m., she was in the 100 block of Amistad Boulevard placing barricades at a low water crossing.
“(I) had placed barricades on the north side of the low water crossing and was attempting to place them on the south side when (I) saw two vehicles disregard the barricade and continue traveling southbound,” Terrazas wrote.
She reported she stopped both vehicles, a white Dodge truck and a red Dodge Durango.
Terrazas wrote she approached the driver of the white Dodge truck and requested his license, advising him that she had stopped him for disregarding the barricade.
She said she then approached the red Durango and asked its driver to pull to the side of the road. She said she asked the Durango’s driver, Guardado, to present his license and also informed him she had stopped him for disregarding the barricade.
Terrazas wrote Guardado told her he did not have a license, and when she asked him if anyone in the vehicle had a valid license, he said no one did.
“As (I) was going to attempt to gather information on the passenger’s side, (I) saw the front passenger door open. At the time, (I) did not see anyone walk towards the driver side of the vehicle. (I) walked to the rear of the Durango and saw the passenger door was wide open. (I) then saw a male subject, later identified as Carrillo, running on foot towards the front passenger side of the white Dodge,” Terrazas wrote.
Terrazas said she asked Guardado why Carrillo was running and advised Guardado to stay where he was.
“(I) then saw Carrillo continuing running towards Chevrolet Drive and Amistad Boulevard. (I) yelled at Carrillo several times to stop running, (but) he continued to (a house in the 100 block of) Amistad Boulevard and began banging on the front door,” she wrote.
Terrazas reported she caught up with Carrillo and ordered him several times to put his hands behind his back, but said he ignored her. The officer said when she grabbed Carrillo’s arms, he tried to pull away.
“(I) and Carrillo fell to the porch where (I) was able to place him in handcuffs. (I) asked the homeowners if they knew Carrillo, and they advised her ‘no’,” Terrazas wrote.
Terrazas said after tussling with Carrillo, she saw the Durango “drive off at a high rate of speed,” heading toward Chevrolet and Margaret Lane.
“(I) advised other officers of the Durango fleeing the scene and possibly heading towards Cantu Road or west on Mary Lou Drive. (I) heard officers advise they located the vehicle on Margaret and Cantu. Guardado was taken into custody for evading arrest or detention with a vehicle,” Terrazas wrote.
A bond of $10,000 was set in the case against Guardado, and a bond of $5,000 was set in the case against Carrillo Rios. Justice of the Peace Pct. 3 Pat Cole set both bonds.
