NEWS — Two arrested in burglary spree; firearm recovered, one attempts escape

The following information was provided by the Del Rio Police Department.

On March 13, 2026, officers with the Del Rio Police Department responded to the 500 block of Waters Avenue in reference to a burglary of a vehicle. The victim reported that a 9mm pistol had been stolen from inside his vehicle.

During the investigation, officers identified a recent increase in vehicle burglaries throughout the city. Preliminary findings included video footage capturing two male suspects committing several of these offenses. Investigators were able to develop identifying information on one of the individuals.

Further investigation revealed that the stolen firearm had been sold by a subject identified as Jesus Enrique Rios, 17 years of age. Detectives obtained both a search warrant for Rios’ residence and an arrest warrant charging him with Theft of a Firearm.

On March 19, 2026, at approximately 9:00 a.m., officers executed the warrants at a residence in the 200 block of Juanita Street, where additional stolen property was recovered. Rios was taken into custody and transported to the police station. During an interview, Rios admitted involvement in multiple vehicle burglaries and identified a second suspect as Aydin Horton, 17 years of age.

Investigators subsequently obtained a search warrant for Horton’s residence and vehicle, along with an arrest warrant charging him with Theft of a Firearm. At approximately 2:00 p.m. on March 19, 2026, officers executed the warrants at a residence in the 200 block of Space Boulevard, where Horton was taken into custody without incident.

While at the police station, Rios attempted to escape from custody but was quickly apprehended by officers. He was additionally charged with Escape.

Both Rios and Horton were transported to the GEO Correctional Facility pending the magistration process.

These investigations remain ongoing as officers continue working to identify additional victims and gather further information related to recent vehicle burglaries.
