The following information was provided by the Del Rio Police Department.
On May 30, 2026, at approximately 11:11 p.m., officers with the Del Rio Police Department responded to the 2100 block of Veterans Boulevard regarding two suspicious males. The caller reported that one of the individuals had been seen carrying what appeared to be a
firearm.
Upon arrival, officers observed both subjects leaving the area in a black passenger vehicle and traveling southbound on Veterans Boulevard. The vehicle stopped shortly thereafter in the 2000 block of Veterans Boulevard.
Officers contacted the occupants and advised them of the reason for the investigation. During the encounter, officers observed what appeared to be a handgun in the passenger-side door compartment. For officer safety, both occupants were asked to exit the vehicle while the weapon was secured. Upon inspection, the firearm was determined to be a BB gun.
While speaking with the occupants, officers observed an open container of an alcoholic beverage and multiple syringes in plain view on the vehicle’s floorboard. One of the syringes was uncapped and contained a dark-colored liquid substance.
Both subjects were detained pending further investigation. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of additional drug paraphernalia, including a spoon containing brown residue, another syringe and a small plastic baggie containing a brown-black tar-like substance. Field testing of the substance yielded a positive result for heroin.
As a result of the investigation, Jonathan Elizeo Barron, 26 years of age, and Jose Herrera, 47 years of age, were arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1/1-B, Less Than One Gram, a state jail felony.
Barron and Herrera were transported to the Del Rio Police Department for booking and processing before being transferred to the custody of the GEO Correctional Facility pending magistration.
