Two Del Rio residents each earned tickets following a confrontation in the parking lot outside Plaza Del Sol Mall, police said.
Del Rio Police Department Senior Office Dulce Gonzalez said Monday DRPD Senior Officer Elijah Sandoval was dispatched to the parking lot outside Plaza Del Sol Mall, 2205 Veterans Blvd., at 7:17 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 9, after police received a call about a child left unattended inside a vehicle.
The vehicle was described to police communications as a 2014 Ford Explorer parked outside the Applebee’s restaurant.
“Communications then informed the officer that the complainant claimed he had just been assaulted,” Gonzalez said.
Sandoval reported when he arrived, he spoke with the driver of the Ford Explorer, identified as Tomas Rodriguez.
“Rodriguez stated he arrived at the location and left two of his children inside the vehicle while he picked up his food from Applebee’s,” Gonzalez said.
“Rodriguez told the officer he was trying to leave when he was confronted by a man, identified as Lee Stevenson, as he was attempting to reverse out of his parking space. Stevenson confronted Rodriguez and told Rodriguez he was not allowed to leave because the police were en route,” Gonzalez said.
“Rodriguez said he continued to reverse while Stevenson began to punch the driver window and kick the vehicle,” she added.
Sandoval reported then Rodriguez got out of the Explorer and punched Stevenson in the face.
Sandoval issued Stevenson a citation for criminal mischief, less than $100, for the damage done to the Explorer.
Sandoval issued Rodriguez a citation for leaving his child unattended in a vehicle.
Gonzalez said both offenses are Class C misdemeanors.
