The drivers of two vehicles were taken to the hospital this afternoon after their vehicles collided at North Bedell Avenue and Cantu Road.
Del Rio police officers and firefighters and two ambulances crewed by emergency medical service teams from Val Verde Regional Medical Center converged on the intersection of North Bedell Avenue and Cantu Road after the two vehicles collided there about 5:30 p.m.
The collision involved a maroon Buick Envision, a sport utility vehicle, and a charcoal-gray Toyota Camry, a midsize sedan. The Envision was

stopped at the stop sign at Bedell and Cantu, facing east, and the Camry was traveling south on North Bedell Avenue.
The owner of a business near the intersection showed this reporter a video of the collision captured on one of the cameras outside his business. The Envision is stopped at the stop sign, then drives out onto Bedell. The Camry, traveling south on Bedell, slams into the driver’s side of the Envision.
Air bags in both vehicles deployed. The driver of the Envision was out of his vehicle and standing on his own as firefighters and an ambulance crew helped the driver of the Camry from her vehicle. The driver of the Camry was secured on a gurney, then loaded into an ambulance and taken to the hospital.
Relatives of the driver of the Envision arrived at the scene, and although the driver at first refused medical treatment, his relatives insisted he be taken to the hospital to be checked for possible injuries. The driver acquiesced and was placed into an ambulance and also taken to the hospital.
Police are still investigating the collision.
