NEWS — UMC opens new clinic

United Medical Center has expanded its services on the north side of Del Rio with the addition of a fifth clinic at 3809 Veterans Blvd.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the Northside Del Rio Clinic on Tuesday. Community leaders, UMC board members, staff and community members attended the event. The new clinic will provide patients with access to healthcare services, including primary care, x-ray and lab services.

assistant of UMC in Del Rio, thanking everyone for attending the ceremony. More than 40 people attended the event on a chilly morning.

“United Medical Centers have been serving patients and communities for the last 52 years. We made a strong investment in growing our clinics (in each city),” Worrell said. UMC has clinics in Del Rio, Eagle Pass and Brackettville.

Mayor Al Arreola, Del Rio mayor, was also in attendance and thanked the board members and employees of UMC for helping the community. He then read a proclamation declaring Feb. 18, 2025 as “The Northside Del Rio Clinic Grand Opening Day.”

Escobedo introduced the two new health care practitioners at the clinic, Felix Escobedo and Hugh Freitas. Felix thanked the people who attended the event and said he is ready to help patients. Freitas spoke next and said he and Felix focus on “urgent care” and look forward to meeting patients at the clinic. 

Arreola then asked all the UMC employees who attended the ribbon cutting to pose for a group photo in front of the clinic. Maria Martinez, chief executive officer of Del Rio’s Border Federal Credit Union and a UMC board member, spoke next and thanked the doctors and staff for helping bring healthcare services to Del Rio.

United Medical Center’s Northside Del Rio Clinic had its ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday morning and features X-Ray room and access to healthcare services, including primary care and lab services and is open for the public to visit at 3809 Veterans Blvd. Lydia Olivera, clinic manager of UMC in Del Rio, said the clinic is an important milestone for UMC growing in Del Rio. “We want to grow on the north side so we can meet everybody’s needs – this is already a giant step for us,” Olivera said. Lydia Olivera, clinic manager of UMC in Del Rio, gave a tour of the clinic and showed visitors different rooms, including all six exam rooms and their x-ray room.

Hours of operations will be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and urgent care services are Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
