Val Verde voters elected a new Commissioner Wardlaw but retained the sheriff and county tax assessor-collector to their positions.
Democrat Kerr Wardlaw narrowly won the County Commissioner Pct 1 seat, held by his father Martin Wardlaw, over Rep. Alfinio “Al” Flores 1,587 to 1,511 votes.
Meanwhile, Dem. Sheriff Joe Frank Martinez beat Rep. Rogelio “Roger” Hernandez 7,926 to 6,033 votes to win his fifth term.
Democrat Elodia “Loly” Garcia erased a 275 vote early-voting deficit to defeat Rep. Maricar Ortega Chattler 6,835 to 6,813.
Comstock School District
The top 4 vote-getters in an 8-person race for the Comstock School Board race were Patrick Zuberbueler with 172; Jimmy Crane with 160 votes, Laura Allen with 147 and Daniel “Danny” Jay Herrington with 142.
The other four candidates Bill Zuberbueler with 125 votes, Miguel Zuniga with 81 votes, Montana Nettleton with 73 votes and Shay Sanchez with 65 votes.
State and National
In the State Representative, District 74 race, Del Rio resident and Rep. Robert Garza beat incumbent Democrat Eddie Morales Jr. 7,675 to 6,084 votes. There are a number of votes throughout Texas’s largest border district that still have to be counted.
Republican Congressman Tony Gonzales defeated Democrat challenger Santos Limon, who claimed Del Rio as his home, 8,894 to 4,868 votes here.
Unopposed
Others winning local elections unopposed in the general election were Rep. Roland Andrade for District Judge, 63rd Judicial District; Rep. Suzanne West for District Attorney, 63rd Judicial District; Dem. David Martinez for Val Verde County Attorney; Rep Fernando Garcia for County Commissioner Pct. 3; Dem. Dionicio “Nicho” Trevino III for Constable Precinct 1; Dem. Daniel Reyes Jr for Constable Pct. 2; Rep Michael Wancho for Constable Pct. 3 and Dem. Gerardo “Jerry” Hernandez for Constable Pct. 4.
